Breakfast of Champions is temporarily cancelled due to the changes in the Mass schedule. We will most likely be moving it to Saturday mornings. Stay tuned.
We can go without food and water for a while, but we all know that eating healthy directly relates to how well our bodies and minds work. The better you feed your body, the better you will feel, phsically and emotionally. You won't get sick as often, and you will have more energy to do all the things you want to do. On top of this, we all have certain foods and drinks that we love. There's a reason we have taste buds, and a sense of smell. Plus, we all know how much more enjoyable eating a meal can be when we share it with friends and family. There is so much about eating and drinking that is so much a part of who we are as human persons. Everything that happens to you physically, emotionally, and mentally also relates to you spiritually. Your soul needs to be fed just as much and more than the rest of you. And it is totally connected to the rest of you. If you only feed your physical body with food, but you don't make friends, relate to family, and study and learn and interact with the world around you, then you are emotionally and mentally starving yourself. This will have ramifications. So, if you are starving yourself spiritually, think about what this is doing to you, and how this will hurt your physical, emotional and mental health as well. It may seem like a no-brainer, but if this is true for your physical, emotional and mental well-being, then it is even more true for your spiritual well-being. Someone once said, "7 days without prayer makes one weak." Well, just like you wouldn't only eat one meal a week, maybe breakfast on Sunday, so if you want to be spiritually healthy, you can't just eat one meal a week. The center and source of the Christian life is the most Holy Eucharist. This is where we are fed. This is what nourishes and energizes us. Jesus says in John 15:5, 'I am the Vine, you are the branches... apart from me, you can do nothing." The majority of Catholics go to Mass and receive the Eucharist only once a week, on Sundays. Is it any wonder that they are starving, spiritually weak, and cannot overcome sin and selfishness in their lives? Is it any wonder that they put too much emphasis on getting emotionally, physically and mentally fed? They are trying to make up for the almost total lack of nourishment they are missing out on! St. Padre Pio once said "Prayer is oxygen for the soul." No prayer, no breath. No breath, no life. That's pretty simple. Well, continue the analogy. If you really believe in the truth of our Catholic faith that Jesus in the Eucharist is the center and source of all our life, then why would you only receive Him once a week? No Eucharist, no spiritual food. No spiritual food, no spiritual life. Once again, pretty simple. So here's a chance for you to change that. It's chow time. You need more spiritual carbs and protein. You need to get your spiritual veggies in. Remember, the only real goal of your Catholic faith is to become like Christ Jesus. Well, you can't become like Jesus if you don't ever see Him. Get real with the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist!
