Diocesan WorkCamp E-mail

Saturday, June 21 - Friday, June 27, 2008!

Last year we brought 6 high school youth down to Orange and Culpeper County for a week of service, community, prayer and formation.  We painted, roofed houses, replaced windows, grew deeper in our understanding of our faith, and built great relationships with tons of other young Catholics from all over the Arlington Diocese.

We had many people who helped us out, donating time, resources and financial support to make this possible, not the least of which were the Knights of Columbus, Contractors Russ Gustin and Joe Ferreira, the Jr. Legion of Mary, the Challenge Girls Club, and many others.

This year, we have 13 youth, along with 3 adult crew leaders, signed up and rarin' to go!  Contractors Russ and Joe are plugged in again, as well as two new contractors, Jason Rinker and John McCormick!  We are always looking for more contractors willing to offer their time and talents to this awesome and worthy cause.  Patty Bartnick is back as a female crew leader, and Connie Hall is joining in this year as well!

We are also looking for folks willing to help in the following areas:

  • Stakeholder - Position filled!
  • Adult Male Crew Leader - We desperately need one adult male crew leader.  This is a week-long commitment along with monthly preparatory meetings leading up to WorkCamp.
  • Adult Female Crew Leader - We are really looking for another adult female crew leader. This is a week-long commitment along with monthly preparatory meetings leading up to WorkCamp. Position filled!
  • Security Personnel -   We need 6-7 more adults to help out for one day at the main WorkCamp site as security volunteers.
  • Lunch Detail - We need a bunch of parishioners/groups to help out preparing bagged lunches for hungry WorkCampers.

St. Veronica Youth Ministry strives to help the parish become a "Church for young people, which will know how to speak to their heart and enkindle, comfort, and inspire enthusiasm in it with the joy of the Gospel and the strength of the Eucharist; a Church which will know how to invite and to welcome the person who seeks a purpose for which to commit his whole existence; a Church which is not afraid to require much, after having given much; which does not fear asking from young people the effort of a noble and authentic adventure, such as that of the following of the Gospel"
