Jr. Legion of Mary E-mail

The Junior Legion of Mary is open to all children who have received First Holy Communion.  The purpose of the Legion is to know, love, and serve God through prayer and service.  The Legion encourages the living of the Faith on a deeper level and then the sharing of the Faith with others.  As members of the Legion, children are provided with a system that is based on prayer, study, and Faith formation.  Legion service and spirituality is based on the doctrine of the Mystical Body of Christ.  Junior members of the Legion of Mary pray the Magnificat prayer daily, attend a weekly meeting, and do 1 hour of active, apostolic work weekly.  Prayer is intermingled with instruction in the Faith at the weekly meeting, and as active Legionaries, the children also have the opportunity to perform apostolic works, approved by Fr. Hathaway, their Spiritual Director.  Some examples of works performed by Juniors are:  the distribution and explanation of the rosary and the Miraculous Medal; visiting families with newly Baptized children; visiting residents in nursing homes or elder care facilities; serving Mass; instructing other children in the saying of prayers; making rosaries; handing out Catholic literature and answering questions about the Faith; teaching the Catechism.

St. Veronica Youth Ministry strives to help the parish become a "Church for young people, which will know how to speak to their heart and enkindle, comfort, and inspire enthusiasm in it with the joy of the Gospel and the strength of the Eucharist; a Church which will know how to invite and to welcome the person who seeks a purpose for which to commit his whole existence; a Church which is not afraid to require much, after having given much; which does not fear asking from young people the effort of a noble and authentic adventure, such as that of the following of the Gospel"

- Holy Father John Paul the Great, 1995 World Day of Prayer for Vocations
